Meet the Knight Family

Tell us about your family. What are some of your favorite things to do together?
Stuart and I were married in 2003, 13 years ago. In 2008 God brought our beautiful daughter Laura, 8, into our lives. We enjoy playing games together as a family and experiencing nature together at places like the Runge Nature Center. Laura has been involved with and passionate about reading and music since she was just a baby.

How long have you been a part of the school?
Laura began attending River Oak (formerly Concord Christian School) at the beginning of first grade.

How has the school partnered with you as parents to help your children thrive?
We first visited River Oak before Laura entered Kindergarten (at another school). At that time we decided to have Laura attend a publicly run, local school. We reasoned that it was within walking distance and there were no financial considerations. That, however, is a decision I will regret for the rest of my life.

Laura was bullied throughout her Kindergarten experience, the signs of which were not immediately apparent. During that time in our lives we revisited River Oak. I was impressed with the small class sizes, the Christian based values and message, and the kids themselves, who were just so happy to be at River Oak. After our tour of River Oak the Principal prayed together with us in her office. Understanding our school experiences up to that point she prayed that God would provide Laura with a “hedge of protection.” I knew, right then and there, that we were in the right place.

Since then Laura has excelled academically and blossomed in her faith. Her teachers have been engaged, energetic, and invested in the students.

The relationships that have formed between Laura and her classmates have extended far beyond school hours. We know the parents as well as we know the students, and we all share the same goal for our children.

River Oak has given us the opportunity to be involved as parents, which is very attractive to us. I’ve been volunteering in the library for the past two years, which has given me the opportunity to get to know each and every one of the students that Laura interacts with, further deepening my appreciation for what we are collectively achieving together as a school.

River Oak and our experiences at River Oak these past two years have had an enormous effect not only in Laura’s life, but in the lives of our whole family. We feel so blessed to have River Oak Christian Academy in our area and in our lives.
